Swine Flu H1N1
Swine Flu H1N1
World flu figures soar as Malaysia reports 2 cases over the weekend.
Is there any reason to panic?
There is no reason to panic over influenza A (H1N1) as it is not a deadly virus, a senior lecturer on swine diseases at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) said today (16 May 2009). Dr Ooi Peck Tong, senior lecturer at UPM’s Department of Clinical Veterinary Studies, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, said a regular flu killed between 250,000 and 500,000 people worldwide every year. “Influenza A (H1N1) is not a deadly virus but it spreads fast as its morbidity is high, however, the mortality rate is relatively low. The normal flu kills more people every year.
Dr. Paul Yeo writes in The Star and quoted WHO’s statistics whereby a quarter to half a million people die annually from influenza, so A (H1N1) is by no means the only flu virus that can kill. He further said that,
The reason such new strains are more virulent is that natural human immunity has not been developed against them.
He is probably correct and I am buying into his assessment.
I also take comfort in USANA Health Sciences founder Dr. Myron Wentz (who is a microbiologist specializing in virology) explanation that our body creates the best defense to these bugs on its own and that drugs do not create the same quality of immunity that the body does as it is exposed to more and more types of bugs.
This is what Dr. Wentz said to some 100 associates in the company’s Mexico office recently.
The body is like an intelligent learning computer program that continues to learn as more data is input. The vaccines cannot prepare you for all the variations of bugs that you will be exposed to and their protection is short lived. Lifelong immunity to the majority of strains can only come from continually exposing yourself to small amounts of bugs and allowing the body to build immunity to many variations.
To demonstrate his point that the body becomes stronger as it is exposed, he told his audience that he had touched almost every door handle in the office and then proceeded to put his hands in his mouth. Yep, Dr. Wentz basically licked his fingers after touching what everyone considers to be the dirtiest thing in the place beside the carpet.
Everyone leaves some of their germs behind on a door handle they’ve touched. This was his way of making the point that your body needs to be constantly exposed to those minor germs that make up are world. That is the way we truly remain healthy and it is the vaccines and antibiotics that are destroying our immune system.
So take it easy and take a good nutritional supplement to boost your immune system. USANA has a good range available.
